M’k'n’zy’s Raw Review for 2/14/2011

Wow!  What a Monday Night Raw!  We had an incredible show tonight!  I almost don’t know how to review this one so I am just gonna go match by match.

We opened with a Cena promo which lead to the first match of the night, Cena vs Punk with the stip that there has to be a winner and Nexus banned from ringside!

John Cena vs. CM Punk – **1/4

I thought they put on a decent match.  Punk was in control over most of it against the Purple People Eater John Cena.  The match went back and forth, Punk got handed a chair from a member of Nexus under the ring, threw it in, then grabbed a wrench from the same hand when the ref got rid of the chair and beaned Cena with it.  After that it was an easy GTS for the win for Punk.

We had some promo time with Del Rio, Edge, Vickie and Dolph.  Edge beat the heck out of Del Rio and Ricardo and then Vickie came out.  Vickie declared that Dolph was now the world champion and would recieve the title on Friday, and that she had proof that Edge was behind the attack on Teddy Long.

Eve Torres vs. Natalya Neidhart for the Diva’s Title – *1/4

I thought they had a decent match.  Not sure why they had to have it be a lumberjill match, but the spot where Eve jumped out to save Nattie from the lumberjills was good.  Was also a great spot in the match or two.  Better than your typical Diva’s match for sure.  In the end Eve got a nice counter and pinned Nattie clean to retain, and they shook hands after the match.

We have a catfight in the locker room between the Diva’s with a Tarver sighting!  And after that Mark Henry is coming out to the ring to share some Kool Aid, but Sheamus doesn’t like cherry fella!  Sheamus takes out Henry, says he is gonna do it again in the Chamber, then takes out Henry again.

This led into the match of the show!

WWE Champion The Miz vs Daniel Bryan – ***3/4

What a match this was!  They traded a ton of great spots and worked really well together.  This was one of those well told matches and stories that managed to elevate both guys.  The Miz won clean, which he desperatly needed, and Daniel Bryan put on a great match against the WWE Champion which elevates him.  One of these days, WWE will learn that if they give Daniel Bryan 8-12 minutes at least for a match, he will have a great match on Raw almost every time.

The Miz cut a great promo after that made him look really strong.  He really does have a lot of skill on the mic.  After this we led up to our next match.

John Morrison and R-Truth vs Michael McGillicuty and David Otunga – **

Overall this wasn’t much of a match, per say, but I am still giving it two stars because of John Morrison’s performance.  Once he got in the ring it wasn’t about high flying, it wasn’t about acrobats, it was about beating the tar out of The Nexus and sending a message to CM Punk.  Morrison more or less single handedly took out all three members of Nexus, with a small assist as he helped propel Truth over the top rope into Mason Ryan.  This is the kind of intensity that John Morrison is going to need to be a main eventer, and he just showed he has it in spades.  It’s just a matter of time now.

After that match we get the only downer segment on the whole show, Khali’s Kiss Cam.  Yeah I’m just not gonna go there.

Randy Orton vs Sheamus – *1/2

They didn’t get much time for this match, but they made up for it by working hard and fast, still managing to put on a decent match.   For the finish, Sheamus hit a superplex on Orton, but then Orton jumped up and hit the RKO out of nowhere for the win. After the match Nexus came down and started beating down Orton.  Morrison, Truth, and Cena come down and after a series of RKO’s and an AA the ring is cleared out of the Nexus.  You know what would have made this better?  Randy should have RKO’d Cena after they cleared the ring.  Would have been perfect.

The rest of the show……20 minutes of overrun….was all the Guest Host of Wrestlemania 27

Ladies and Gentlemen

THE ROCK!!

HAS COME BACK!!

TO THE WWE!!

The Great One proceded to cut a promo in the ring, and I hope all the guys in the back were taking notes, because he put on a clinic!  He talked about how after 7 years he was back!   He told Michal Cole to shut the hell up and know his role!  He said he was going to make this the best Wrestlemania ever!  He said he has buisness with John Cena!  And, MOST OF ALL!

He said he was back, and he wasn’t ever leaving again!

I’m going to give this episode of Raw a 8.5/10.   It was an AMAZING show, with an amazing finish, and great matches throughout.  The only down point was the kiss cam, otherwise the whole show was unbelievable.  This is going to be hard to follow, but I would say that they don’t have to worry about Wrestlemania 27 doing a good buy rate.

The star of the show?  Do you even need to ask?  THE ROCK!  I don’t feel I need to explain why.  If it wasn’t for him, it would have gone to either Daniel Bryan or The Miz for that amazing match they put on.
